This is the archive of gabba.cc, one of the first mp3 blogs.
for all the swede-a-philes, try this s3xy peice of finnish. x

I came across this artist on yoursongs.se, he was the weeks featured artist, well, he's from sweeden and apparently speards his music through the internet.

3 minute Electronic Pop. Been far too long between posts, so by way of an excuse here's half of gabba's partner labels new release I've been promoting in advance of its release on Bleep tomorrow. dubstepdisco?

Was sent this unreleased remix of this song by the remixer and just love it. Subsequently checked out their myspace (/dragons1) where the original is, which is very different but also great. This band seem to have all sorts of influences going on but I think the strength of the tunes and the voice make them much more than the sum of their parts. It's quite refreshing to hear some real balls out romance in these hollow days of gak fuelled fluro asymetry..

Extracted from a mix by The Glass (URB podcast). DFA's newest signing. That beat...

I've been following French pop act Dondolo (Romain Guerret) since I heard "Peng" on Ladytron's Softcore Jukebox mix. This is off the 2007 album Dondolisme - a catchy new wave confection, bits of Cure and maybe A Ha. There's a video on YouTube as well!

This track is one bad mother!!! Don't know much about these guys (this guy?), but they (he/she?) seem to be friends with Black Dice. Hell, maybe this is just a new Black Dice moniker? Anyway, it sure kicks ass!

Autumn electro-house. Like sun in a cloud after the rainy day. Really nice feelings. Enjoy.

This is kind of a tricky one to put up here. They are a local band from Vancouver, Canada. They are all girls, and pretty cool. My fav song is "Back Hosue" but I couldn't find that one, so I'm sharing this one.And the girls call their music "Ghettotech". Hope you guys like it.

I've come to Camille a little late and my point of entry wasn't her or nouvelle vague but by this Al Usher mix. (After Moka's Partial Arts post I'd been keeping an eye out for his stuff.) And this was the best thing I found. Its inventive but accessible, delicate but 'thick' and erotic but fun, contradictions that make it better every time I listen to it. DELICIOUS..
The original of this is also great as is most of the other tracks by Camille that I found. She's so cool.. Check out this super cute video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgXUctWDF34

Good music... North Sweden. Well, Sweden, ofcourse...

Daikaiju is a band that can certainly not be accused of playing music for selfish reasons. On-stage they wear kabuki masks to retain anonymity. Daikaiju literally translates into large monster in Japanese. They combine their theme of the Daikaiju with that of their surf roots, often with lighthearted or silly results.

"Who is the Daikaiju? Kabuki men deliver most high rocket music.
Special reverb skill combo for full impact! Loud Roken-Roll for earful pleasure!
Impressive radiation of hyper-dimensional springy sound, divine psychedelic wind for your special liking.
Worship Psycho-surf band Daikaiju daily for good luck and health!"

Wonky Spanish synth punk, a jerky digital hurdy gurdy from 1982.

More Weirdness, like A toytown Todd Edwards cheese nightmare. Maximalist elevator music that comes close to equalling the saturation nightmare that is Paprika.

Tight as a drum, A Bass pop workout produced by Martin Hannett and featuring two of the most serious sounding pop stars I've heard of: Gary Barnacle & Ross Middleton.

all i've heard is Peaches and Golden Brown in british film soundtracks and then i came across this adam and the ants knock-off on the no thanks! comp and got hooked.  i love the big sludgy synth at the start and the baroque trilling and then when he sings "the money's no good" and that quirky snake charmer instrument comes in...it's a perfect c0cktail of annoying noise

These cutesy bang gangers are from sydney and are, perharps, a little TOO of the moment.  Damn, when it kicks in though..

synthgasmic.

already blogged elsewhere http://hypem.com/search/synthgasm/1/ but i reckon its worth posting here...

If only I would know the reason
why summer aint no Snowman's season...

recorded a few years back, Min Sounds was recorded at a friends studio in Peterborough.

It is the first track of 2 albums some tracks of which are currently being recorded.

I wrote and played drums, vocals, guitars, percussion

Piano's, Double Bass, guitars, co-production and mixing was remarkably acheived by the patience of Paul White.

And the beautiful flute and other percussions were layed by the amazing Jodi Swindgler.

Enjoy...

Chops x

a delightfully spacey disco piece utilising a beautiful swatch of syncopated metalic percussion and synth sounds.

Thumbleweed...... Far too quiet around here, its spooooky...

A different kind of childish, Sparky's Magic Piano is the second in a series of children’s audio stories featuring Sparky, an original character created for Capitol Records in 1947. The story is over 18 mins long but i urge you to at least listen upto 3.17 when the piano begins to speak. 'the voice of the piano was generated by Sonovox, an early version of the talk box.' wikipeadia. Some of the dialogue could be construed as quite suggestive, which is kinda funny/sinister, but that's my dark sense of humour - 'rub your hands over my keys...'

...It's Sparky

Authentic mentalist acid workout from the House of Muzique compilation, the rest of the comp is less extreme acid, techno and house but of an equally high calibre.

Norwegian synthpop from 2006.  and i mean Norwegian synthpop in the best possible sense of the words.

As we soon leave the sinking ship of 2007, here's to hoping Gabba is not, and that it still has a lot of great music to bring us in 2008. Also, I am sure that it will always be a whole lot 'cooler than thou' :)

This is from the wonderful Fun While It Lasted part 2 compilation, where you will find many other twee indie pop gems.

Well, seeing as I mentioned it: Swedish guitarpop from 2006 and i mean Swedish guitarpop in the best possible sense of the words. ;)

This, my first upload in far too long, was inspired by the wonderfull CBS top 100 which like last years top 100 looks like being my sole playlist for the next few months. This track, just one of many great entries in this years list, is gorgeous, warm, vocoded electro - can't get enough of those melancholy robots!

1982 ish. doo-wop electro. recorded on the same night as planet rock using the same backing track - Read this user review on discogs

Volt
Buy CD
Turismo is the first track of the Volt album, a trip trough the electro, [Censored Genre] and experimental side of Vate

"Vate’s new album (Volt) came out harder and darker into the electro music. These experimental tunes create a thick robotic atmosphere."
ccNeLaS

I've been listening to lots of disco (nu, cosmic, italo, blah blah) stuff of late and this aeroplane remix is absolutely delicious. Aeroplane's eponymous track from last year was one of my faves, i just love their production and what they've done with this already great soulwax product pop record is absolutely spine tingling. 10x10x10x10x10x...

They are from Serbia.

If you`re waiting for the
End of the World, you`ll like it

We made this!

This track is about Swissair flight 111 that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean near Halifax in 1998. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swissair_111

A fix of pure POP that I suspect has pushed me into a period of dependency that will inevitably end in an OD and a rehab backlash. Still, right now my eyes are rolling in my skull.. mmmnnnnugh....

Lots of reverb. An asymmetrical dubstep sort of rhythm. Loud and dark.

My first post in a long while, most previous have pretty much split opinion so we'll see how this one does.  Akira The Don is a rapper from Wales, now living in London and this is the first track taken from his first (widely available) EP.  Patrick is a moving and deeply affecting tale of an old friendship and the twists and turns it has taken.  a rather haunting backing track complete with electronic crunching and a slow build complement the spoken word style of the rap and its subject matter.

similar in tone is Cut You In The Face taken from the same EP and available on I-tunes

Akira The Don's style has come on quite a lot since this track and free downloads and mixtapes can all be grabbed from his website.

My second post this week is my own re-working of The Enemy's new single, created for a remix competition to be featured on the b-side, it obviously wasn't good enough for them but i wondered what gabba users would make of my dubstep influenced version.

a great song by arthur russell...a little "dancier" than a little lost, etc...

No.4. in a sporadic series of favourite basslines. Dumb as f**k. But 100% effective.
There was a reasn why I didn't post this weeks ago but I'll be buggered if I can remember why today, so stuff it, up it goes. It's not as if anyone else's playing..

Something a bit more cerebal. A cover of o John Cale song based on a Henrik Ibsen play about an 'heroic feminist Hamlet' not an imediately appealing start to a write up but bare with it. Apparently the singer, Tony Wakefield, (whose voice I really like, a bit Robert Wyatt I think)Has a VERY checkered past. see:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Wakeford#Pre-Sol_Invictus_W ork
Again, I know this aint looking good on paper, but trust me its a great track..

1970's nigerian rock; great organ, nicely repetitive vocals, dancey rhythm...7-8 minutes long....
