More Sleaze. In response to Gavin's upload, some ghetto tech with a slightly more feminist (!) slant, a smooth yin bass loop to dj deeons yang pelvic bass thrust.
This is from one of the f**k Action mixtapes put out by S&C Central Processing Plant Swisha House: tweeky dubbed-out R&B deliciousness! Of course, having some of that vintage Timbaland funk in the source material helps, and Ginuwine's no slouch when it comes to voicing the pangs of adolescent desire. I think I like S&C R&B better than the newer screwed up rap tracks.
Squarepusher's 'Eviscerate'.

ok, this will be my final "obvious" post. (see the comments of my last post)
this track is more of an exercise in drum programming and pretty much devoid of melody, but there's something about it that makes me happy. it also crushed all other drum and bass music at the time of its release. it's rather quaint by today's standards of course. maybe that's why i like it. the programming is insane and yet there's nothing in the song that sounds like it shouldn't be there.
Lorn's production sounds something akin to vitalic and justice and I'd love to have posted the truely fantastic Crimson Skies which is more representative of the majority of his output but that's everywhere at the moment (hype it), so as a point of difference I'll post Dresden which is a little more reflective. hope you like..
Synth doodle. Somewhere between a ringtone and the radio phonic workshop i just wish this was a bit longer..
Fuzzy house / Melted plastic. The antithesis of that Alexander Robotnick track, an epic chunk of bounce and turbulence.
Gabba's been rathere slow so I take my chance and contradicts stuff I've said before, sorry slinky. :) Here's something for the summer. Let's put your car top down and play it.
More summer! I was listening to an old vinyl compilation (jack Trax - the first volume on Lynx records) sort of in the background. All of a sudden a track came on that just stuck. the magic starts alf way through the track when the vocal kicks in. Not at all what I expected. It sounds like you try to be soulful but still keeping your voice down not to disturb your mom that's watching the telly downstairs.
Cheap and showy. A novelty hit that never was (?), this almost reaches the operatic heights of sparks at there pop zenith, if you only listen to this once it'll surely get a smirk before you delete it..... ahh sooo
French fancy. A NDW cover of Serge's
Euro vision winner (to me, that's almost to good to be true!), from the same
rich vein as the Nancy Nova track.
Grind House, just deep enough, just minimal enough, if there wasn't already groaning on this I'd add it myself..
Another crazy Russian. Foilmx is a [Censored Genre] producer. Member of reamp3 crew create glitchy and breaked sound. Enjoy and experiment with your sound system
I remember in 2000 or so reading reviews of the Gotan Project and thinking that combining tango and house was a nice idea, only to be deeply disappointed when I actually heard them and realized that they were lounge-hell. This is maybe what I imagined when I read that review - a tango on the verge of being devoured by repetitive beats.
Ever thought that Slits cover of heard it through the grapevine is just so good you want more just like it? Well here it is, a bassline that now unfortunately reminds me of a
car advert, and a perfectly angsty and adolescent vocal..
Music that makes me feel old, a genius electro sketch from my favourite South African booty bass aficionados.
Well crafted [Censored Genre] from Sciene North.
Workout! More Aerobics, Catch the wall, Walk like a Model, Spare leg..
I'm nor sure what Chromatics sounded like before but they've since followed Glass Candy's lead in reinterpreting italo without any sense of irony. This sounds like Raff's "Self Control" went through puberty and came out the other end sleek and s3xy. I love the morse code style guitarwork particularly.
A track I wish I'd been aware of at the time. I can just imagine it putting it at the end of a precocious C90 compliation after a bit of Japan, some Scriti Politti and a couple of dodgy Tears For Fears b-sides.. I can also imagine I'd have given it to some girl thinking how my sensitivity would win her affection.. Berk..
After researching this track I've discovered it has a bit of a following so if you've heard it before fine, but I hadn't, so I hope your in the same boat as me.. read this for the facts:

No.3. in a sporadic series of favorite basslines.
Unashamed pop perfection. I love the single mix too, but the deceptively simple bassline in this mix really gets my id. However, I'm prepared for a few snippy comments about how this isn't bleeding edge cool enough. Fools!
J*Davey's from Los Angeles. Soulful electro-dance? A fresh sound from fresh performers -- Jack Davey's the girl, Brook D'Leau's the boy and beatmaker.
I've never seen as devoted fans as the "J Davey babies" that follow them around. This used to be the first track on their MySpace. It's also my favorite, along with "No More" and "Dirty Love," the latter of which was released on the Rewind 5 12"
sampler with El Michels Affair and Daz I Kue. I dig it more than the stuff they've got coming up now; I think they're discovering their sound? anyway, enjoy
Shuggie Otis is a bit of a secret handshake among soul-jazz fans. This track, while not featuring his vocals, does showcase his determination to squeeze otherworldly atmosphere from fairly basic R&B instrumentation. From his LP Inspiration Information, 1974!
(I'm told it's been re-released on David Byrne's new label Luaka Bop. This may result in its having been heard by many among you -- if so, wonderful. Here in NYC, nobody's got a clue who he is)
In anticipation of what on paper looks like the
12' of the year (remixers!), and the B side to some astounding
game boy grime. Like hi-fidelity chip tunes, all tracker jitters with a 2 step sheen..
Per requests for more 'mellow:' :)
This is a Depeche Mode cover, I think, though I'm not completely certain of this tune's lineage. The album this is from consists primarily of downtempo, bossa-ish renditions of synth pop classics from the 80's.
Haunting, Rosemary Clooney-esque delivery. Quite touching actually.
This is the last track on Sebo K's Back Up, Vol 1 mix CD for Mobilee, one of my favorite mix CDs of the year. Listening to it on the way to work this morning, it struck me that this track could be seen as a revival of the "ambient house" movement of the early 1990s, which kind of trailed off into [Censored Genre]-for-[Censored Genre]'s-own-sake, but I think the original idea's still good.
My favorite minute and forty-six seconds from Troy Pierce's mix on the Minus compilation. One of three songs on Minus' roster which employs syncopation.
This is a new remix version of a reedit I did two years ago on this track. Markovic is a rock band from Gothenburg. They play grandiose haunting poprock or something like that... Seems like you either like it or hate it. This bonus track will be on their next single which wil be released in august on wonderland records.
The Langley Schools Music Project was an album compiled by a elementary/middle-school music instructor who had his students perform popular songs of the day (1970's). The album is filled with gems... but "Desperado" is my fav. I normally hate anything Eagles related, but this one particular song grips me with the combination of haunting pre-pubescent vocals and slightly out of tune gymnasium piano.
Easy, k-pop-esque song and they are from Montréal.
A 1972 B-side.Ok so not new. BUT. In fact I heard it the first time in a Brennan Green mix. And when those drums begin I was whoa what's this I want it, I want to know...man ! And when I find out that it was a Celentano's track I was astounded, that guy did that mix of funk rock back in 72's ? It was like when I discovered that that Deltron 3030 track was based on a song by William Sheller. Old singers for retro cheesy radio stations have some old secret gems in their sleeves uhuh Only on old 7' apparently. I removed the cheesy english lyrics in the end to gain space but the charm of the song are the italian lyrics isn't it ?
On the 10th anniversary of the death of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, here's a blistering tribute by his son Femi. 1997 also saw the death of Femi's sister Sola (their mother had been murdered by the Nigerian army before). What else can I say? Femi makes me want to cry.
thought i'd drop in and add this, i'm still on my post punk kick. thought you guys might like this, "Decline" from the Wipe Out The Funk 12" 1982 i think, i posted a pylon track last time and am now listening to This Heat. i may post their weird electro inspired track "24 track loop" in the comments if anyone is interested but i'm still looking for any more good suggestions from this era hope all is well in gabba land
no label, no nothing - just swedish summer fun.
There's a Bollywood theater in my neighborhood which I don't visit nearly as often as I should. I went Saturday night to see "Cash" which was pretty astounding - it's a caper movie edited within an inch of its life and comprehensibility. Sequences randomly turn into animation, there's a jetski chase, a lot of things get bl0wn up. It's pretty much everything you could want in a movie. The music's also interesting - Bollywood has been digesting dancehall just as dancehall digested Bollywood a couple years ago, and so you get tracks like this one, which is trying really hard to sound like Sean Paul and winding up somewhere else entirely. It makes me wish I knew a lot more about this . . .
Alternative / Progressive / Indie I suppose. They have a reputation on releasing an album every 10 years and they are from Turkey.
your bitch got AIDS from the preacher.
Bass. And deep house. Or may be it's can be called deep minimal techno ? Groovy track.
Good remix. But just what you expect from Four Tet. The original is great. Nobody has posted this yet soo... Honestly I'm a little bit tired of this track now but I can't denie it's well worth a listen for you who haven't heard it.
Check out Matthew Dears (aka Audions) second album ASA BREED which is a mixture of techhouse, techno and indie pop. On Ghostly International.
Also check his myspace for tour dates, videointerviews and where to get the records.
From the excellent, and soon to be
over exposed sound track to the inimitable Quentin (Mr Oizo) Dupieux's first feature film. If the movie's a patch on the soundtrack expect something akin to Sponge Bob Squarepants meets
Barbarrella..
Digital Bamboo. Music that just makes me really happy, from
another former YMO graduate and part of the soundtrack to Super Mario 3, is it the association of the many hours spent on the SNES, or just the naive jolliness of this midi bells and whistles ho down that get me every time..
Cascade Samba, a rhythmic meditation from the new cross town rebels 12'.
And finally, back where we started, some French filmic atmospherics, written by
Serge (off course), and glamorous beyond compare..
Allright. Summer time. It's raining of course, so I listen to my old stuff. Now I'm in a german techno craze. It's the turn of the century, Perlon, Mattias Schaffhäuser, Losoul, Force Tracks, etc are all over the place and quite reminiscent of the "minimal" of today...MRI are not the most important ones but I have sentimental bond to their album Rhythmogenesis. I've seen that another track from the second album has been posted eerr five years ago (damned). This one is from the first, far better one. Deep, long, dubby track. Very "kölnisch" ja.
He'll know by now. Thanks for the memories Tony. y' big twat.. ;)
Hello gabba. Came to you to share one of my favorite songs as off late.
It's a grower, don't get tired of minmal techno just now, this one's worth it. Starts with a playful and bouncy percussion, throbbing sub bass & mysterious voices that around minute 6 mutate to become some sort of tribal prayer. Listen to it very loud.
Minimal s3xy techno from two european producers.
This is one of my favorite tracks to get lost in after taking a disconap. Its bubbling drums provide the tempo for it to become a danceable song but it also shimmers enough with deadpan vocals & atmospheric casio synths to be relaxing. Bedroom pop, I suppose. Would find appealing to listeners of Lali Puna.
for all the swede-a-philes, try this s3xy peice of finnish. x
